recruiters are busy people, and they are no fans of wasting time. What every recruiter really needs is their own personal assistant to cover all those fiddly little things in their day that they just don’t have the time to deal with.
But we don’t live in a dream world. Recruiters can’t all have personal assistants to remind them when they need to do something, find their phone when they’ve lost it, post content to their social media accounts for them and stick the kettle on for them when they get in. Or can they? Well that answer is yes, with a great piece of tech called IFTTT.
IF This Then That
IFTTT stands for IF This Then That, and in essence it allows you to tell the internet/your phone what you want it to do with simple triggers. The key feature of IFTTT is it’s “recipes” which you can either create yourself or select from a list of thousands of user created ones. A recipe works by having a trigger, the ‘IF This’ and an action that it will complete for you whenever the ‘trigger’ is triggered, which is then ‘Then That’. For example with just a couple of clicks you can get it set up so every new Twitter follower you get automatically gets sent a LinkedIn invite by your LinkedIn account. All you need to is click ‘use recipe’ and allow it to access your Twitter and LinkedIn, and you are away.
I could go on all day about the amazing things you can do with IFTTT, but I just want to highlight a few nifty little recipes which could save recruiters time and can be set up in literally seconds- all you need do is go to the site and click ‘use recipe’.
A Couple of Tasty Recipes for Recruiters to Get Your Taste Buds Tingling
Notify me when my connections change jobs: This recipe will send you a notification every time someone you are connected to on LinkedIn changes their employer, allowing you to effortlessly keep track of your network and where your contacts are working. Maybe you could even send them a ‘congratulations on your new job’ present if it you really wanted to stay in their good books!
Mute phone when you get to the office: Simple but useful. No more forgetting to silent your phone and having it embarrassingly ringing loudly when someone else is trying to make a phone call. IFTTT will automatically mute your phone when it detects you are at your office, and there is another recipe which unmutes your phone when you leave the office too!
This is not the last you will hear from me about IFTTT. Indeed to quote Winston Churchill:
‘This is not the end, nor is it the beginning of the end, it is merely the end of the beginning’.
It has so much time saving potential for recruiters and I have barely managed to scratch the surface here. So take a look at it. I guarantee the time you spend checking it out will be made up for by the time it well save you! Watch this space for more on IFTTT, and let me know your favourite recipes in the comments below.
