our blog gets recruiters thinking

Alexa.com is a great site which shows the rankings of websites around the world.

It’s worth keeping up to date on which ones are at the top, especially if your strategy part relies on the rankings of sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter etc… You may even want to know how yours ranks?

Note the current rankings, and note who (globally) achieves the tops slots:

  1. Google
  2. Facebook
  3. YouTube
  4. Yahoo
  5. Baidu
  6. Wikipedia
  7. Windows Live
  8. QQ.com
  9. Twitter
  10. Blogspot
  11. Amazon
  12. LinkedIn

Interesting reading??  Especially if you have a social media strategy that necessitates a presence on some of these sites… In a nutshell, you should if you want to attract rankings to your own.

Now for the UK stats:

  1. Google UK
  2. Facebook
  3. Google
  4. YouTube
  5. BBC Online
  6. Ebay
  7. Yahoo
  8. Wikipedia
  9. Windows Live
  10. Amazon.co.uk
  11. Twitter
  12. LinkedIn

So have a think about your social media strategy… if it doesn’t take Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn seriously, you could be missing out on a massive community of people who are keeping the above sites at the top.  Being on those sites will inevitably drive traffic back to yours.

Another Tip: Measure your own website

You can also measure your own site rankings (and some other juicy stats) by going to the site info tab.  I always recommend researching how your site actually looks to sites like Alexa as and keeping (perhaps monthly) track on how you are doing, whilst also using tools like Google Analytics.
